Do you remember the smell and taste of fresh bread baked in a wood-fired oven? Or do you remember how a smithy worked? In the LVR open-air museum in Kommern, you can experience with all your senses how people used to live and work in the Rhineland. You will currently find 79 historical buildings from the former Prussian Rhine province on the 110-hectare site. Farms, windmills and watermills, workshops, community buildings such as a school and bakery, dance hall and chapel are examples of the building, living and farming of the rural population since the end of the 15th century. The architectural monuments are embedded in a museum landscape with fields, cottage gardens and orchards.
