Directions arriving from A3/A44:

  • Drive off the A3 Kreuz Ratingen-Ost (Junction) and change to the A44 in direction towards Düsseldorf.
  • Then take exit 34 “Ratingen Ost”.
  • If driving in the direction to Düsseldorf, turn right at the traffic lights on to the L422 in direction of Ratingen. If driving away from the direction of Düsseldorf turn left at the traffic lights on to the L422 in direction of Ratingen.
  • Follow the road to the second large crossroads. Then turn right staying on the L422.
  • Turn right at the fourth road on to the L139.
  • At the second opportunity turn right to reach the large car park at Blauer See

Directions arriving from the A52:

  • Drive off the A52 at exit Ratingen.
  • Driving in the direction of Düsseldorf take the left-hand lane at the traffic lights and turn left on to the L422 in direction of Ratingen. If driving away from Düsseldorf turn left at the first traffic lights on to K2, at the second set of traffic lights after that take the right-hand lane and turn right on to the L422 in direction of Ratingen.
  • Follow the road for approx. 4 kilometres.
  • Then at the second large cross-roads turn left on to the L139.
  • At the second opportunity turn right to reach the large car park at Blauer See

Without restricted mobility
  • Leave the carpark by the road on which you arrived. Follow the road left to the junction with the L139. (Attention: the road has a gradient of approx. 10 per cent).
  • Cross the main road here and then go left.
  • At the next opportunity (pedestrian-only path) turn right into Cromforder Allee.
  • The museum is located on the right-hand side after approx. 300 m.
Alternative route on foot:

It is also possible to reach the museum from the “Blauer See” car park by walking along the railway line and the former bleaching meadows. The route is signposted, approx. 600 m.

  • From the car park turn right in direction of the leisure park and cross the railway tracks (short stretch with slight ascent).
  • Turn left after crossing the tracks (Junkernbusch Way) and walk as far as the first opportunity to cross the tracks again.
  • Turn left and cross the tracks, small crossing with safety barrier, uneven crossing.
  • Follow the path (firm natural ground, i.e. neither paved nor asphalted).
  • At the end of the path, turn left and follow the path to the courtyard (Cromforder Allee). The “Hohe Fabrik” (High Mill) and the main entrance are on the left. (further see above ).
With restricted mobility
  • “Blauer See” parking facilities on the road to Blauer See (signposted). It is a natural ground surface that is neither paved nor asphalted. If special events are being held at the leisure ground “Blauer See”, there is a charge for parking on the car park.

Without restricted mobility

Limited parking facilities are available in Cromforder Allee and in the courtyard behind the museum (Access on right passed the mansion)

With restricted mobility

There are two marked disabled parking spaces in the courtyard behind the museum (Access on right passed the mansion)

Note:

  • The paving in the courtyard to the museum entrance consists of cobblestones.
  • The entrance for wheelchair users is located at the rear of the “Hohe Fabrik” (High Mill).
  • Entrance to the mansion is via a ramp at the rear of the mansion, also in the museum courtyard.
  • Should you need to use the rear entrance to the “Hohe Fabrik” (High Mill) you must return to the Cromforder Allee from the disabled parking spaces. Then turn left and proceed to the first archway.
  • Turn left through the archway and go straight on to the rear entrance of the “Hohe Fabrik” (High Mill).
  • As there are one and a half steps to be negotiated at the entrance it is also possible to go around the industrial archaeological excavations and approach the door from the other side where the path is flat. The museum staff will open the rear door for you. Please ring:.

Bus

Directions without restricted mobility

From the bus stop “Blauer See” to the museum (sign-posted path):

  • Having alighted from the bus from the centre of Ratingen, cross the road and walk back towards Ratingen. At the first opportunity (small pedestrian-only path) turn right on to Cromford Allee
  • Having alighted from the bus travelling towards Ratingen, continue walking in the direction of Ratingen. At the first opportunity (small pedestrian-only path) turn right on to Cromford Allee. Then follow the sign-posted path to the museum along Cromforder Allee (at the beginning of the Allee there is a signpost and a safety barrier.
  • Turn right through the archway directly before the mansion. The “Hohe Fabrik” (High Mill) and the main entrance to the museum are on the right-hand side.
Directions with restricted mobility

The path from the bus stops to the museum as described for persons without restricted mobility is not suitable for persons with restricted mobility because it has a steep gradient. This is particularly the case in the last section of the Cromforder Allee (approx. 12 per cent). The path is, however, barrier-free.

Note:

  • Low-floor buses are in service. It is possible to alight from and board the bus barrier-free.
  • The curbs are lowered.
Barrier-free path from the bus stop to the museum (gradient less than four per cent):
  • Having alighted from the bus from the centre of Ratingen, cross the road and walk back towards Ratingen.
  • Having alighted from the bus travelling towards Ratingen, continue walking in the direction of Ratingen.
  • At the second opportunity turn right into Kleiststraße.
  • Then turn right into Goethestraße.
  • Finally turn left into Cromforder Allee.
  • Walk along Cromforder Allee to the first archway on the right
  • Go through the archway into the courtyard. (Entrance and courtyard are paved with cobblestones)
  • Keep left to reach the rear entrance to the museum in the “Hohe Fabrik” (High Mill)”.
  • Those who can manage it enter the museum via one and a half steps.
  • Alternative without steps: Go right around the industrial archaeological excavations and approach the door from the other side. The path to the rear entrance here is flat. The museum staff will open the rear entrance for you. Please ring:.

Zug

Directions without restricted mobility

Visitors can either take a bus from the station or walk to the museum.

With bus from station to the museum:

  • From the station take bus number 773 in the direction of Ratingen Hösel.
  • Travel to the bus stop “Blauer See”.
  • Cross the road and walk back towards Ratingen centre. At the first opportunity (pedestrian-only path) turn right.
  • Then follow the sign-posted path to the museum along Cromforder Allee (at the beginning of the Allee there is a sign and a safety barrier.
  • Turn right through the archway directly before the mansion. The “Hohe Fabrik” (High Mill) and the main entrance are on the right-hand side.

On foot from the station to the museum (Time: approx. 30 Minutes, Distance: approx. 2 km):

  • From the station (from the street “Am Ostbahnhof”) turn right into Poststraße.
  • At the junction with Bahnstraße cross the road at the traffic lights and walk left up a slight hill
  • Then turn right on to Wilhelmring and walk along the left-hand side of the street.
  • At the large crossroads, first cross the Mülheimer Straße and then the Ringstraße and then walk along the Mühlheimer Straße to Kleiststraße
  • Turn left into Kleiststraße.
  • Turn right into Goethestraße.
  • Then turn left into Cromforder Allee
  • Go through the archway immediately before the mansion. The “Hohe Fabrik” (High Mill) and the main entrance to the museum are on the right-hand side.

The route on foot is not barrier-free.

With restricted mobility

In the case of visitors with restricted mobility it is probably best not to walk to the museum from the station as there are relatively steep slopes and unevenness on the route which is approximately 2 kilometres long. It is better to continue the journey from the station by bus.

Note:

  • There are lifts at the station. To get from the platform to the bus stop it is necessary to take two lifts. When leaving the lift the bus stop is straight ahead.
  • The platform is level with the train floor. Low-floor buses are in service therefore it is possible to board the bus level with the ground.
  • The curbs are lowered.
